Get your f’ng ass up and work
I started watching Keeping up with the Kardashians for the entertainment when it first came out. I stopped after awhile because I thought it seemed pointless to indulge in a TV show that was centered around the rich and famous. There in bred the thought that these folks truly are famous for just being famous, no true talent or skill being displayed. Just a showcase of their wealth and sibling drama that is curated for entertainment.
However, during the time spent watching this reality show, I thought there was something interesting about one particular character though, Kim Kardashian. She is undeniably gorgeous, she has a certain aura that appears likeable or watchable and as such she ran with the attention she received from the press and audience. She capitalized on certain relationships, forming and forging others to develop her brand and here we are today, watching this billionaire stamping her name on various industries. Thus far, Kim K has collaborated with the US Olympic Management team to design the official athletic gear under the SKIMS brand, she is currently the face of the Spanish Fashion House Ballenciaga, she built the KKW Beauty, KKW Fragrance brand and of course SKIMS, the shapewear, loungewear brand cofounded with Jens Grede. Today, the name Kim Kardashian connotes mogul, influencer, business woman, brand ambassador, fashion icon and other fitting titles. Kim K undoubtedly turns heads, signals paparazzi camera calls and prompts people to scramble to purchase one of her products. She has truly curated her the Kim Kardashian brand through sheer determination and good business management.
I have grown to appreciate and respect the business woman that she is today. She has created the Kim Kardashian brand through self promotion using social media to her advantage, collaborating with family members and celebrities and she has truly mastered the art of strategic marketing thereby influencing a generation of women who aspire to having it all i.e. business, family, love etc.
We don’t have to agree on how Kim arrived at her level of success, but there is something undeniable — she used her resources to get to where she is and along the way developed her business acumen with the guidance of other business professionals.
I have to give her credit, she is a powerhouse business woman who has truly honed in on what has been successful for her and has delivered on what her fanbase, consumers want.
I watched a documentary on Netflix recently, titled “The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes” and couldn’t help but create a likeness to Kim Kardashian. As Marilyn was to her generation, so is Kim K to this generation of women who aspire the beauty, fame and success that she has cultivated for her self. There is a beauty standard that has been imprinted on Millennials and Gen Z by Kim K, which has influenced how women dress, attain an unidealistic figure and normalize broadcasting the vulnerable and nuanced aspects of their lives. She certainly has mastered the art of salesmanship through innovative self promotion which has led to the phenomenal success of her brand(s).
Love, Like or hate it, Kim K is a dynamic business woman who has worked her f’ng ass off and her billion dollar status is proof of same.
